October 21, Machida City Gymnasium
All Japan Pro Wrestling's Opening Giant Series
Three months have passed since Giant Baba submitted his resignation to Japan Pro Wrestling on July 29th, and now he has launched his new venture, All Japan Pro Wrestling.
On October 21st, a pre-event celebration was held at Machida City Gymnasium, and the following day, at Nihon University's auditorium, Baba faced off against Bruno Sammartino for the World Heavyweight Championship belt, a title closely associated with the late Rikidozan. He was clearly determined to establish his dominance in the pro wrestling world, and the inaugural "Giant Series" was a testament to that ambition.
The opening event of the series took place at the Machida City Gymnasium in Tokyo, where Giant Baba teamed up with Thunder Sugiyama to face Bruno Sammartino and Terry Funk. The arena was packed, and the match was broadcast live on Nippon Television, marking a successful start to the series.
"Thanks to everyone, we were able to hold this match. We hope to have your continued support." - Giant Baba's message to the fans.
