The All Japan Pro Wrestling team is united in spirit as we look ahead to '85, the "year of decisive battle"!
The 1984 All Japan Pro Wrestling "Charity Mochi Pounding Festival" was held as a grand event in the parking lot of the Nippon Television South Main Building from 11:00 AM on December 27th. The large number of fans who had gathered were delighted by the powerful pounding of the great Giant Baba, the Kakuryu duo, Tiger Mask and others. A few days later,
All Japan Pro Wrestling literally came together before the showdown between the "Restoration Army" and the "International Blood Alliance Army." Their faces read, "Next year, we will be the leaders."
Notes
Kakuryu duo: The team of Jumbo Tsuruta and Genichiro Tenryu. Their name came from "Tsuru" (crane) and Tenryu's "Ryu" (dragon). Tsuruta was initially unhappy with the pronunciation of his name as "Kakuryu," saying in interviews on TV and in pro wrestling magazines, "My name is Tsuruta, so it's 'Tsururyu'," but "Kakuryu" stuck because it sounded better (note, "Kaku" is the on'yomi or Chinese reading which is usually used in compound words, whereas "Tsuru" is the kun'yomi, native Japanese word usually used for single kanji or kanji followed by hiragana)
Jumbo Tsuruta scoffed down a mochi saying, "I'll eat Choshu and the others"
This is a crucial year for Baba as well
