(NOAH) EVENT RECAP ~ N-1 VICTORY, NIGHT 9 (Yokohama Radiant Halls, 7th September 2019)
Noah live streamed their show today to much excitement for those both in the arena and watching all over the world at home. There were a couple of teething problems in the stream at the beginning, one where it was buffering, and another with a time delay, but both problems were rectified quickly and (without any of the dreaded lag) the stream proceeded smoothly.
MATCH ONE
Chris Ridgeway vs Sonico
"BritWres meets Lucha"
Handshake before the match, which turned ugly as in true STINGER style, Ridgeway started kicking Sonico, and then was told off by the referee as the bell hadn't even rung and he was attacking his legs.
Ridgeway went to remove Sonico's boot (like he did Harada) to get submission moves in, which bought a cheer from the crowd as they knew what was coming, as this has kind of become his trademark. During the match, Ridgeway managed to put the ankle lock on Sonico on the top turnbuckle.
Short opening match in which Ridgeway managed to keep Sonico grounded. Unusually for him he kept a t-shirt on to wrestle in, which is probably due to being ill recently.
WINNER: Chris Ridgeway via ankle lock submission (6 minutes, 36 seconds)
MATCH TWO
The Return of The Dark Agents (Akitoshi Saito & Masao Inoue) vs KAZMA SAKAMOTO & El Hijo de Doctor Wagner Jnr
Everything was going okay until Akitoshi Saito tagged Masao Inoue in, as he got kicked between the legs by KAZMA, slapped, El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jnr beat him up, and then both he and KAZMA punched him between them in the corner. Poor old man with gout later got chopped.
Naturally, Akitoshi Saito was far more dominant, and both inside and outside the ring was shouting instructions to Inoue.
WINNER: El Hijo de Doctor Wagner Jnr with the moonsault on Masao Inoue (7 minutes, 4 seconds)
MATCH THREE
Minoru Tanaka, Hi69, Junta Miyawaki & Seiya Morohashi vs RATELS (HAYATA, Daisuke Harada, Tadasuke & YO-HEY)
The crowd grew louder with the entry of RATELS...but there were lots of "Junta" calls too, and Minoru Tanaka towel flicked Tadasuke and YO-HEY when they where standing on the turnbuckle during entry.
Match started with HAYATA vs Minoru Tanaka (Tanaka lost the GHC Junior Heavyweight to HAYATA, so he has a score to settle).
A lot of high spots in the match - Hi69's moonsault from the second rope onto Tadasuke in the crowd, Daisuke Harada with a diving footstamp from the top turnbuckle, and HAYATA almost knocked Miyawaki out with an Enziguri.
I think RATELS felt refreshed in this match as they weren't fighting STINGER, and Tadasuke spoke yesterday about how good it felt to have a break from it.
WINNER: Tadasuke with the OutKast on Seiya Morohashi (14 minutes, 17 seconds)
After the match, the referee was handed the belts, and YO-HEY took the GHC Junior. HAYATA tried to get it back, but YO-HEY refused - even insisting on holding it up while their hands were raised and making HAYATA raise his.
Tadasuke left early, leaving them to argue about it.
MATCH FOUR
STINGER (Yoshinari Ogawa, Kotaro Suzuki & Atsushi Kotoge) vs The Sugiura Army (Hajime Ohara, NOSAWA Rongai & Kinya Okada)
Lots of cheers for Kinya Okada when he faced off against Kotaro Suzuki. Okada seems to have learned new techniques, using an impressive slam on Atsushi Kotoge (which he has probably learned from Sugiura). Fast paced match.
Kotoge has started to look a lot happier, and seems to be slowly becoming more animated again.
WINNER: Atsushi Kotoge with the diving body press on Kinya Okada (8 minutes, 9 seconds)
After the match Yoshinari Ogawa offered NOSAWA Rongai a handshake.
NOSAWA shoved Hajime Ohara aside (almost like Harada and Tadasuke) and then went to shake Ogawa's hand. He took it after some hesitation as the crowd screamed as they thought NOSAWA had joined STINGER and ditched The Sugiura Army, but then NOSAWA knocked him down and a brawl broke out. NOSAWA (breathing heavily) got on the mic and challenged for the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag belts.
Tadasuke (with Daisuke Harada) stormed the ring and then challenged for the titles. NOSAWA said that they could have a number one contenders match (and also something about Tadasuke already being champion), and a fight broke out which was broken up by YO-HEY & HAYATA. Then Tadasuke cut a crazy promo, which ended with him basically saying that it was his time now, and doing his fist pump thing.
YO-HEY joined in (but comically ducked when Tadasuke came round to his side of the ring).
Daisuke Harada maintained his distance from his crazy partner.
HAYATA hid in the corner, and kept his head down and away from the camera.
Kotaro Suzuki is not going to forgive or forget NOSAWA attacking Ogawa.
MATCH FIVE
Kumaxiz (Katsuhiko Nakajima, Go Shiozaki & Hitoshi Kumano) vs 50 Funky Powers (Mohammed Yone & Quiet Storm) & Rocky Kawamura.
Mohammed Yone came to the ring with flashing glasses that lit up into a heart shape, and his tag partner (Quiet Storm) was subjected to the kick-chop sandwich of AXIZ.
Crowd with a heavy groan when Rocky Kawamura punched Hitoshi Kumano, and the resulting smack that his boxing gloves made when he did, soon afterwards Nakajima gave the boxer the soccer ball kicks, ending with a running kick to the face. Katsuhiko Nakajima very dominant in this match
WINNER: Katsuhiko Nakajima with the Vertical Spike on Rocky Kawamura (10 minutes, 50 seconds)
MATCH SIX
Kaito Kiyomiya, Shuhei Taniguchi & Alexander Hammerstone vs Kongoh (Kenoh, Masa Kitamiya & Yoshiki Inamura)
Kenoh decided to shove Kiyomiya when he got into the ring and held the belt up to him, but the match however started with Kitamiya vs Hammerstone. Shortly after Inamura and Taniguchi faced off (Inamura is almost as tall as him), both sides stormed the ring, with Kenoh making a beeline for Kiyomiya with the brawl going outside the ring, naturally in this match, Kenoh's sole concern was beating up Kiyomiya.
Taniguchi and Inamura beat the hell out of each other, and Kiyomiya once tagged in took the opportunity to knock Kenoh off the apron. Kenoh could be seen outside the ring looking furious.
Later, when they were both in the ring together, Kenoh went to knock Hammerstone off of the apron and found that he couldn't...which led to Hammerstone getting in the ring to confront him, and Kenoh disposing of him by pulling down the top rope. This left both Kiyomiya and Kenoh in the ring together as the others were knocked to the outside.
Crowd went nuts when they went into a punch flurry.
This match was very much a story of battle of the big thicc boys (and what seems like the start of Kitamiya vs Hammerstone and Inamura vs Taniguchi especially), and the continuation of Kenoh's jealousy towards Kiyomiya.
WINNER: Alex Hammerstone with the Pendulum Nightmare on Yoshiki Inamura (16 minutes, 40 seconds)
After the match Hammerstone and Kitamiya made it clear that this wasn't over, with Hammerstone holding up the belt to him.
MATCH SEVEN
N-1 VICTORY
Naomichi Marufuji vs Takashi Sugiura
Nothing at all was held back in this match, Marufuji chopped the hell out of Sugiura in the early stages, with Sugiura pulling no punches of his own, and at one point spearing Marufuji through the ropes and off the apron (Marufuji's shoulder is again heavily taped, and it was worrying to see him get up clutching it).
The best way to describe this match was brutal, and there was nothing in it that was not - it was a flurry of knees, elbows, kicks, chops, punches and slams. Maybe the best way to sum it up is by a comment that Marufuji made when he challenged Takashi Sugiura for the title in 2018, in it being "a match that only we can do".
WINNER: Takashi Sugiura with the front lock neck choke via submission (21 minutes, 38 seconds)
After the match Takashi Sugiura cut a short promo thanking Marufuji and thanking everyone for coming to Yokohama Radiant Halls today.
As for Marufuji, he said that the tickets were sold out, there was a live stream on YouTube, but Takashi Sugiura was too strong, and he could not win.
