Pro Wrestling Noah held "Korakuen Hall Day 1 NEW SUNRISE" on the 4th January in Tokyo (1,539 people = overcrowded) in the years first event in their 20th century year.

At Korakuen Hall in the semi finals, the GHC National Championship was successfully defended for the second time by the champion, Takashi Sugiura, who defeated challenger Masa Kitamiya with the Olympic Qualifying Slam after 20 minutes and 32 seconds.

Sugiura, who won a fierce battle against Kitamiya said, "I don't want to lose to anyone. The two main eventers, all the Noah wrestlers." He also added with a sigh as he was aware of New Japan, who were holding a big event at the Tokyo Dome next door, "And, I don't want to lose to any other wrestlers at The Tokyo Dome". Speaking of the challenger Kitamiya he made the evaluation of, "Tough. It was good to clash".

For the National Champion, who became the first champion last November, this year marks his 20th anniversary, but with the new belt he is going to make a new history, "More and more, my position is going to occupy an important one. I don't want to lose to anyone."
