(NOAH) EVENT RECAP: SUNNY VOYAGE 2024 (Nagano Arcs, Nagano - Saturday January 20th)
Noah bought the show to Japan's most famous snow country region, Nagano, today. Naomichi Marufuji posted a picture that he had taken before the doors opened, and advising anyone who came not to dress like Shuhei Taniguchi, who was wearing shorts and sandals. When the doors did open and the fans started to arrive (some bought people with them who were first time attenders), they were treated to what is known as an "Ogawa classroom", and he was today teaching Kaito Kiyomiya, Ryohei Oiwa (who has sworn he will train harder and return to New Japan to fill the void left by Kazuchika Okada), and Ulka Sasaki.
Today's event was not streamed live on WrestleUniverse, and we did not get an Instagram stream either, but you will be able to view it on WrestleUniverse from 18:00 on the 24th January. This will most likely be in static cam, with no commentary. You must be a subscriber to view.
MATCH ONE
Shuhei Taniguchi vs Yu Owada
Fans noted that Taniguchi almost had a complete victory.
Winner: Shuhei Taniguchi with the Ground Cobra Twist (6 minutes, 7 seconds)
MATCH TWO
Hajime Ohara vs Super Crazy
Winner: Hajime Ohara with the Finnish Forearm (7 minutes, 4 seconds)
Neither Daga or Hajime Ohara intruded on each others matches today. From looking at the backstage comments, it seems very much that the pre matches will start tomorrow.
MATCH THREE
Naomichi Marufuji, Takashi Sugiura, Ulka Sasaki, Ninja Mack & Alejandro vs Masa Kitamiya, Daiki Inaba, Ryohei Oiwa, HAYATA & Eita
Takashi Sugiura posted on his social media that out of all his opponents today, his own personal opponent, was Eita. HAYATA apparently had a hard time trying not to laugh when Sugi challenged Eita to come on and attack him at the start of the match. Later, there was also the rare ring malfunction, when one of the ropes came away (which is not surprising in a match with five Noah Juniors), but everyone worked around it.
Winner: HAYATA with the 403 Impact on Alejandro (16 minutes, 41 seconds)
MATCH FOUR
Good Looking Guys (Jake Lee, YO-HEY & Tadasuke) vs Kenoh & Los Golpeadores (Dragon Bane and Alpha Wolf)
Winner: Kenoh with the PFS on YO-HEY (11 minutes, 36 seconds)
Backstage, Kenoh switched to a bit of Spanish, and called El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jnr, "CabrĂ³n!"
MATCH FIVE
Taishi Ozawa send-off - Match 1
Kaito Kiyomiya vs Taishi Ozawa
Taishi Ozawa is leaving to do overseas training in England this month, and so is having a few Noah send off matches. Kiyomiya was somewhat critical during the match, yelling at Ozawa that "this is why you can't go overseas!"
Winner: Kaito Kiyomiya with the Stretch Plum Facelock (10 minutes, 58 seconds)
(Fans noted that this is the first time in a while that he has used this move)
Despite his words during the match, Kiyomiya was supportive afterwards, telling Ozawa he had been blessed with a good physique, but if he was to go abroad, then he had to take responsibility for himself. He wanted him to grow and come back to Noah, where Kiyomiya (who has been training him), would be waiting. The seeds of the next generational war have been planted. Ozawa vowed to show Kiyomiya, that when he returned home, he had changed. Then Kiyomiya switched to talking about Jake Lee, and vowed to crush both him and Good Looking Guys in Hachioji. Kiyomiya said he was going to pin Jake directly tomorrow, and he was also going to show him what for on the microphone too. This last comment in relation to an interview that Jake gave, where he said you couldn't feel that Kiyomiya was a good looking guy, as even his microphone was lacking.
MATCH SIX
Good Looking Guys (Jack Morris, Anthony Green & LJ Cleary) vs El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jnr & STINGER (Daga & Yoshinari Ogawa)
El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jnr was on Daga control, picking him up and putting him back on the apron next to Yoshinari Ogawa again, when Daga went out of control on an opponent. I guess if Daga is the lion, then El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jnr is his tamer.
Winner: El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jnr with the Wagner Driver on LJ Cleary (16 minutes, 43 seconds)
MATCH SEVEN
Manabu Soya, Shuji Kondo & Junta Miyawaki vs TEAM NOAH (Go Shiozaki, Atsushi Kotoge & Hi69)
Winner: Manabu Soya with a jumping DDT on Atsushi Kotoge (18 minutes, 17 seconds)
As Nagoya is Manabu Soya's home prefecture, it was his duty to close out the show. As he is not currently challenging for a belt, his words were very brief. He asked everyone if they enjoyed themselves, said he hoped they had a good time, and told them to be careful going home because of the weather. Backstage, Shuji Kondo revealed that tomorrow, he and Junta Miyawaki had a secret technique they were going to unleash on Good Looking Guys, and especially the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Champions (YO-HEY and Tadasuke)...
