Noah's Mitsuo Momota's first experience as a kick referee!
On Sunday, July 30th, at the All Japan* kickboxing event held at Korakuen Hall, Noah's Mitsuo Momota had his first experience of a kickboxing referee. This can be considered one of Noah's activities of, "Do what you want freely*".
(Picture caption reads: Momota has been a professional wrestling referee in the past, but this is his first time kickboxing. There were also some "Momota" calls from the audience)
Notes
All Japan Kickboxing Federation was a Japan based body to sanction professional kickboxing (nothing to do with Baba or All Japan Pro Wrestling). This ran from 1987 until 2009 when it was dissolved due to members breaking away into sub companies, bankruptcy and Yakuza involvement by one of the members of the board.
"Do what you want freely": Probably another way for Misawa to stick it to All Japan, as this is something that Baba (or rather Mrs Baba in particular) would have probably allowed.
WEEKLY PRO TELEPHONE SERVICE
Before the age of streaming services or the take off of social media, sports companies used to run hotlines whereby fans could call and get the latest news on their favorite teams (soccer, baseball etc). Weekly Pro jumped on the trend and created their own. By ringing 03-3238-0467, fans this week could get information on Noah's two launch shows, plus New Japan's G-1 Climax.
WEEKLY CALENDAR
Sunday 6th August: Noah at Differ Ariake (start time 5pm)
Sunday 6th August: Mitsuharu Misawa appeared on "Inazuma/London Hearts" for TV Asahi (7:56pm - 8:56pm) - Misawa had wrestled that day, so he probably went straight from the venue to the recording studios.
Tuesday 8th August: Mitsuharu Misawa appeared on "All Night Nippon" radio show (which was renamed "Mitsuharu Misawa's All Night Nippon), which ran from 1:00 am to 3:00am (I wonder if this was the show with the infamous call to Kenta Kobashi....)
Thursday 10th August: Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi appeared on the television in a show called, "Platina London Boots" for TV Asashi (11:09pm - 11:55pm)
(Of note is the sheer amount of wrestling radio shows at this time, such as the humble "Hokkaido Pro Wrestling Show", which did not ever really have special guests mentioned, but was dedicated to pro wrestling nonetheless, to shows such as "Mori Mori Mania", which had a special segment dedicated to wrestling and with special guests. There were also radio shows by The Great Sasuke (later to be Kenoh's nemesis, with a name he would have approved of, "The Foul Sasuke") and Megumi Kudo also had her own too. This was kind of like the podcast boom a few years ago when everyone almost seemingly had one).
