On the 13th, Pro Wrestling Noah announced the retirement of Yoshinari Ogawa (57). The statement revealed that the reason for his retirement was a neck injury, "Ogawa has decided to retire from active duty at his own request, as it has been determined that he will be unable to continue active duty due to a neck injury."
Ogawa has been active for about forty years, since his debut in All Japan in 1985. Ogawa has been active at the forefront of Noah, winning numerous titles including the GHC Heavyweight, GHC Tag, GHC Junior Heavyweight, and GHC Junior Tag. In recent years, he has not only been at the centre of the junior ranks, but has also been a pillar of technique.
"Although he will be retiring from active duty, he will be able to live his daily life without any worries, so we ask all fans to rest assured. Furthermore, at Ogawa's own request, there will be no retirement press conference or ceremony, so we ask for your understanding."
With no plans for a retirement ceremony at present, social media has seen a flood of comments expressing regret over his retirement, such as "He's one of the unforgettable wrestlers," "He was Ogawa-san until the end. The achievements he left behind and the techniques he passed on, will remain with us forever". There were many voices expressing regret over his retirement, such as "an unparelled technician" and a "pioneer of modern pro wrestling, where junior heavyweights now fight in the heavyweight division".
