Who is the man who holds the belt during title matches?
The suited official you will often see in the ring during title matches and sitting watching them at ringside, is the chairman of the Global Honored Crown championship committee.
His role is to preside over a committee who will decide who gets the belt, when, why, what they do with it and when they lose it. They will also decide if a wrestlers behavior or drawing power means they will be stripped of it. When a match is signed he will preside over the press conference, the competitors will sit either side of him and sign their names to the contract. His role during title matches is to safeguard the belt, it will sit in a place of honor on the table in front of him, watch for any cheating or wrongdoing and then to award the winner with it. His will also be the final word as to who gets it.
By far the most famous Chairman was Joe Higuchi (1929 - 2010), one of the elder statesmen in Noah who took no crap from anyone. Famously in his eighties he saw SUWA misbehaving during a championship match, got into a verbal argument with him and took his jacket off in preparation to take him on. What most people don't know is that Joe Higuchi was working for All Japan when David Von Erich died in Tokyo in 1984, and he offered to tell the Von Erich's what had happened but was told no, this needed to be done by someone closer to the family.
