GHC Heavyweight Champion, Takashi Sugiura (47) and challenger, Naomichi Marufuji (38), made intense sparks at the GHC Heavyweight Championship signing ceremony held on the 23rd May in Tokyo.

Sugiura and Marufuji, will clash at Noah's Korakuen Hall event on the 29th. They have had two GHC matches since Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium on January 31st 2016. Sugiura, at that time a member of the Suzuki Army, took the belt from Marufuji in a rough match involving intrusion into the ring by the seconds and chair attacks.
Looking back on the last match, both have made a mutual agreement this time. Sugiura said, "I think that everyone knows it, but I did not enjoy the match last time. This time I want to show a match that only Marufuji and I can do". Marufuji said, "Takashi Sugiura is stronger this time, he doesn't need a chair, his body is a dangerous weapon. That is why I want to see a match which turns heads".

In addition to the GHC Heavyweight signing ceremony, a ceremony was also head for the GHC Tag Championship which will pit champions Go Shiozaki (36) and Kaito Kiyomiya (21) vs the challengers, Katsuhiko Nakajima (30) and Masa Kitamiya (29).
Go Shiozaki appeared in pain and limping after the prefight match said, "We do not intend to lose on the 29th, and my knee will be cured on the day". Nakajima said exaggeratedly, "I am going to go home next week and sleep with the belt for probably a week and at the same time, polish it."
