(ALL JAPAN) AN UNKNOWN TRAINEE

WEEKLY PRO
5th August 1986

A mans will, Yoshinari Ogawa stands firm.
Profound.
Enduring the treatment of seniors and being busy with chores, he manages to find time to train day in and day out. Only recently has he begun to understand that "Wrestling is difficult". "When I was watching as a fan, I thought it would be easier, but it's not. It's cheeky of me to say that, but pro wrestling is a "bottomless swamp" (laughs). Even using just one arm, there are countless variations of how to use it,  how to evaluate the texture, how to remove it, how to carry...there are countless variations and this may be the reason why he hasn't run away from the dojo*.

"Wrestler goal? No"
He is impudent to be able to pull it off with ease. That's right, despite the bullying of senior wrestlers who are more than ten years older than him, he has continued to stay. Despite his appearance, he is thick skinned. A seemingly thin man*, if you take a look at him, when you peel away the layers you will see he is full of fighting spirit and has an uncompromising strength.

"Will Wajima-san and Kototenzan* enter the training camp? Wait and see."

He is at a loss as to how to deal with the two "big juniors" who will soon arrive. He will probably be made to carry two bags, and he will do it without a single complaint. But he can't lose in the ring. Pro wrestling is a martial art without a goal, and no matter how much sumo or amateur wrestling you do, it is not easy.

"They are them, I am me"

He can say this because he is confident that he is senior when it comes to professional wrestling. Even an unknown rookie can become a star, and Ogawa aims to be the first "upstart" in All Japan.

NOTES
*For more on this see "Yoshinari Ogawa, A Lonely Technician", which reveals that he did, but he always came back due to his terrible home life.
*These days you wouldn't think twice about a small thin wrestler, but Ogawa was unusual in All Japan in that he was small and thin and Baba preferred monsters. Genichiro Tenryu had to persuade Giant Baba that Ogawa could debut.
*Kototenzan: John Tenta
*Wajima-san: Hiroshi Wajima.
