(NOAH) EVENT RECAP: SUNNY VOYAGE 2024 (Saturday February 17th, G Messe Gunma Main Hall, Gunma)
Fans likened going out from Tokyo (or else the northern Kanto region) and travelling up to Gunma as "like being on a field trip" as you returned home easily at the end of the day. Attendance today was 334 people, which included lots of children.
Today's event was not streamed live (sadly there was no Instagram feed either), but will be available to view on WrestleUniverse from 18:00 JST on the 21st February. You must be a subscriber to view.
MATCH ONE
3WAY MATCH
Daga vs Super Crazy vs Alejandro
Winner: Daga with the Diablo Wings on Alejandro (7 minutes, 3 seconds)
Daga looked as smug as ever on winning. Backstage, he wondered why no one was challenging him, (but then again, since he had been bragging that he was the greatest champion ever, perhaps it wasn't surprising that no one had come forward). Daga declared that he would nominate his own challenger, or else he would take the belt out of Noah and to another promotion.
MATCH TWO
Masa Kitamiya & Ninja Mack vs Los Golpeadores (Dragon Bane & Alpha Wolf)
"A dragon flew from Mount. Haruna!!"
(Mount Haruna is a dormant stratovolcano in Gunma)
Winner: Dragon Bane with the TwisterBane on Ninja Mack (8 minutes, 38 seconds)
Masa Kitamiya was seen at ringside warning Los Golpeadores afterwards about repercussions when he saw them again in the upcoming tag league.
MATCH THREE
Kenoh & Yu Owada vs Daiki Inaba & Hajime Ohara
The children in the venue cheered Kenoh when he walked to the ring, which he responded to. In the ring, he was seen to encourage young Yu Owada, even at times showing him tough love by throwing him repeatedly into their opponents when they were in the corner.
Winner: Daiki Inaba with the DDD on Yu Owada (11 minutes, 14 seconds)
Afterwards, Kenoh was seen leaving the ring, leading Owada by the wrist behind him.
MATCH FOUR
TEAM NOAH (Go Shiozaki, Atsushi Kotoge & HI69) vs REAL (Saxon Huxley, Timothy Thatcher & Shuhei Taniguchi)
Naturally the match started with a brawl as REAL did their bounce and then attacked. Shuhei Taniguchi, who had hit Go Shiozaki with a massive chokeslam, wound up getting the machine gun chops from him.
Winner: Timothy Thatcher with the Fujiwara Armbar on Hi69 (14 minutes, 37 seconds)
Backstage, Thatcher declared that he and Saxon Huxley ("Big Tim and Big Sax" as Huxley called them), would win the Victory Challenge Tag Team, they were the team that everyone was afraid of, and they would block everyone's path to victory.
MATCH FIVE
Tadasuke vs HAYATA
This is their first single since 2021, and once again, very little had changed as HAYATA stood with his hands on his hips watching Tadasuke showboat.
Winner: HAYATA with the 403 (8 minutes, 50 seconds)
MATCH SIX
GOOD LOOKING GUYS (Jake Lee & Jack Morris) vs GOOD LOOKING GUYS (Anthony Green & LJ Cleary)
Winner: Jack Morris with the Cobra Twist on LJ Cleary (11 minutes, 42 seconds)
Jack Morris and Anthony Green shook hands at the end of the match, with Jack holding the GHC National belt up. I think Jake may have had to use a little diplomacy between them to make this happen, but whatever went down, Morris said they would meet in the ring on Friday as both friends and brothers.
MATCH SEVEN
YO-HEY vs EITA
Winner: Eita with the Trauma (8 minutes, 5 seconds) (note, this was 45 seconds less than HAYATA beating Tadasuke)
HAYATA and Eita spoke on the mic afterwards, as Tadasuke saw to YO-HEY. Eita (who had been quite vocal during the match when fans cheered for YO-HEY), said that tonight was a landslide victory, while HAYATA told them that they would be better off simply practicing singing, and then both of them walked off with the microphones. Backstage, Eita held his up to the camera and said that they would sing the full chorus of Asuza No.2 and told fans to prepare their penlights. HAYATA (who was standing awkwardly) said that it was going to be an easy victory. As for YO-HEY and Tadasuke, both who had been soundly beaten in the pre matches, YO-HEY said that his confidence to be able to beat HAYATA and Eita, had taken a knock.
MATCH EIGHT
Naomichi Marufuji, Takashi Sugiura, Yoshinari Ogawa & Ulka Sasaki vs Kaito Kiyomiya, Ryohei Oiwa, Manabu Soya & Junta Miyawaki
When they faced off for the first time, Kaito Kiyomiya and Ulka Sasaki (who I guess is also Noah Born), shook hands. However, they weren't so polite at the end of the match when they were in each others faces at ringside afterwards. As one team was made up of seniors, Yoshinari Ogawa did some teaching, and Takashi Sugiura (who appears to have done Jumbo Tsuruta's kitchen sink) checked out Junta Miyawaki's abs by elbowing them.
Winner: Manabu Soya with the jumping DDT on Takashi Sugiura (18 minutes, 7 seconds)
Fans were quite surprised by the result as it was unexpected. Then Manabu Soya went to close out the show, saying that he and Shuji Kondo would win the league. Kiyomiya snatched the mic and said no, it was going to be himself and Ryohei Oiwa who won. Kondo snatched the mic back and said (threatened/promised) to beat them up. I should also note that at Korakuen on Friday there are going to be some scramble matches between the participants, so Soya may get his chance a little sooner.
