November 27th - Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center
On November 16th of last year, Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid faced off for the first time in the ring at Korakuen Hall, sparks flying. However, at the time it was just a three-minute exhibition match. A year has passed since then, and the two are finally facing off against each other.
Fans were also looking forward to this dream match.
"I was thinking a lot until yesterday, but now I feel strangely relaxed. Maybe I've given up." Tiger was on a roll after defeating the powerful Chavo Guerrero, and he seemed relatively calm when he faced Kid, his strongest opponent in the junior heavyweight division. "What I need to be wary of is Kid's power, his explosiveness, his springboard attacks. And the fact that each of his moves are heavy. I think the target is Kid's stamina". Tiger, who sees Kid's weakness as a lack of stamina, is aiming for a long term battle.
However, the match proceeded at a fast pace from the start, seemingly outwitting Tiger. Kid was the pacesetter, hitting Tiger with a series of difficult moves, including the Romero Special and the Tombstone Piledriver.
Compared to Kid's aerial techniques from the ground up, Tiger Mask's movements were not quite up to par. His usual dynamic fighting style was also absent, and Tiger, on the defensive, stood out.
Then, when Kid missed Tiger's signature feint followed by a plancha, Tiger lost his rhythm in the match and was completely at a disadvantage. Kid seized this opportunity to finish off Tiger with a lariat, a brainbuster from the top of the corner, and a brainbuster to the outside, taking control of the stage.
Tiger landed a back drop outside the ring to save the day, but it wasn't enough to inflict any damage on Kid, and the bell rang to signal both men were outside.
Tiger Mask, who lost by decision in terms of content, said with a gleam in his eyes, "I was able to attack quickly, which threw off my strategy for a long-term fight. I took all of Kid's moves today, but the damage was less than I thought. To beat Kid, it's not a speedy match, it's a slow, steady fight in the heavyweight division. It's my turn next."
For Tiger, defeating Kid is surely a major test and challenge before he moves up to the heavyweight division.
